Not only did Margaret Donaldson of Hampden St, Hurlstone Park, install solar hot water many, many years ago. She was also an early adopter of solar PV, in 2012, when she installed her first system.

And now she’s sent that solar PV system to the recyclers (the inverter had failed) and installed a new, much bigger system through Inner West Community Energy.

Margaret now has a 5.9 kilowatt system comprising 20 REC panels, an SMA inverter and Solar Analytics monitoring tracking consumption and production.

“Environmentally I’m keen to make sure I have as little a footprint as possible,” Margaret says, “as well as the savings. So it’s that double benefit. It seemed hard not to do it, if you want to be environmentally active.”

Margaret was delighted with the service provided by one of our preferred solar installers, Roland Lawrence Electrical. “They came as we agreed at the right time, they put it in within two days, the Solar Analytics was working, the new smart meter was put in by  the Powershop people, so now I should be getting the full benefit of it,” she says.

One little operational tweak we will help Margaret with shortly is changing the timing of her solar hot water electric booster. At the moment, it’s coming on between 3am and 4am but now she has a big solar PV system it would make more sense for any hot water boost to come on when her generation is at its peak, during the middle of the day.
