FOUNDER

Gavin has 30 years experience in the clean energy sector. His book “The Big Switch. Clean Energy for the 21st Century” was published in 1994. He was a program manager at the NSW Sustainable Energy Development Authority, ran his own energy efficiency firm, Big Switch Projects, a consortium member for both the Adelaide and Blacktown Solar Cities. He’s run IWCE since it was incorporated in 2017.

VOLUNTEER CHAIRPERSON

Meloni is a semi-retired academic who, for the last ten years, has worked in science education at the University of Sydney.  She joined IWCE as a way of having a practical impact on climate change, to work with people and offer them opportunities to be able to make a difference by taking up solar. Meloni manages our volunteers, so reach out if you’re interested!

Amanda brings creativity and innovation to the committee whether it’s something she’s cooked in her self-made solar oven or a delicious fermented beverage. Immersed in tech during the day, she provides a fresh perspective to how to promote sustainability in the Inner West.

VOLUNTEER HEAT PUMP MANAGER

Peter Lawson is a Leichhardt resident. After getting solar panels onto his roof with the help of IWCE he liked what he saw and joined the group. The energy and direction of the group is about creating positive action on climate change. Peter wants to encourage households to electrify everything. Now!

Penny Biggins is a long term Annandale resident who joined IWCE because she wanted to be part of a community organisation that is focused on doing something useful and practical about climate change.

VOLUNTEER TREASURER

A Chartered Accountant with audit experience, Judith is interested in the transition to renewable energy both from a commercial and domestic perspective. At home, she has a solar system and battery powering her home and EV. Judith believes that advocating for sustainable energy use is of utmost importance to help respond to the climate challenges we are facing.

VOLUNTEER SECRETARY

She has recently finished her undergraduate degree in International and Global Studies at the University of Sydney and is currently working in EdTech. While she doesn’t have a house of her own for PV panels (#GenZ), she’s passionate about seeing solar in the community, where it can contribute the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Plus, as soon as she learns to drive, she’ll be lining up for an EV!
